Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the First Team of the No. 2 Reconnaissance Survey Party under the former Ministry of Geology in 1963. The naming section is located in the area of the Qianwa Ridge, Dadianzi Township, Tieling County, Liaoning Province.

Synonym: (前弯岭组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is composed essentially of grey-green and grey-violet andesites and andesitic tuff-lavas, with its upper part being intercalated with tuffaceous sandstones and andesitic breccias, and with a thickness of about 469-610 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its basal part is in an unconformable contact with the underlying Jiegutai Fm

Upper contact

Regionally, the schematic strat column indicates the next younger unit as Songshugou Fm

Regional extent

Its distribution is of a small scale, being restricted only to Shimenzi and Longwang Temple areas in the Dadianzi Basin.

Age 

The precise age of the formation needs to be confirmed by fossils and/or radiometric isotopic dating. Schematic strat column in the previous "red Chinese Lexicon" had implied that the Qianwanling Fm spanned early-Middle Jurassic.
